INITIATIVE
Youth Gun Violence Prevention
Leadership Development

Issue
Credible messengers are the key to Cure Violence and reaching disconnected young people. However, many do not have the formal training that would help them be even more effective in their work.

Solution
With the lens of advancing credible messengers skills and careers, we are developing an evidence-based leadership curriculum.

Topic Highlights
  • Public Health
  • Collective Efficacy
  • Communication
  • Team Building
  • Public Education
  • Case Management
  • Strategic Planning
  • Burnout
Providing credible messengers with a foundation in leadership skills will support their growth and abilities in working with the community.

Changing the Narrative
Since public health strategies incorporate historical and contemporary injustice, space is created for non-traditional models, like Cure Violence, that are geared towards stopping violence from happening by addressing root causes.

Equipping credible messengers with the skills to engage in community organizing that is rooted in collective efficacy results in empowered community members, greater self-efficacy and civic engagement.
