ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY December 3, 2012 Theodore Roosevelt Leadership Award The Theodore Roosevelt Leadership Award recognizes pioneering leadership in the field of criminal justice. The award honors the history of the Crime Commission as it traces its roots back to the late 1800s, when the New York Society for the Prevention of Crime helped bring down Tammany Hall and install Theodore Roosevelt as president of the New York City Board of Police Commissioners. In 2012, the Crime Commission honored long-time board member Richard Girgenti for his lifelong commitment to criminal justice, first as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan, then as the Commissioner of the Division of Criminal Justice Services, and now in his current capacity as the National Practice Leader and the Americas Principal-In-Charge of the Forensic practice for KPMG LLP. The event was held overlooking the city on the 35th floor of the Mutual of America building, and featured a spirited conversation with some of the leading candidates in the 2013 New York City Mayoral election: Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Speaker Christine Quinn, and Comptroller John Liu.
