ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY November 28, 2016 Theodore Roosevelt Leadership Award The Theodore Roosevelt Leadership Award recognizes pioneering leadership in the field of criminal justice. The award honors the history of the Crime Commission as it traces its roots back to the late 1800s, when the New York Society for the Prevention of Crime helped bring down Tammany Hall and install Theodore Roosevelt as president of the New York City Board of Police Commissioners. In 2016, the Crime Commission honored Jonathan Lippman, Chief Judge, New York State Court of Appeals (2009-2015); Of Counsel, Latham & Watkins LLP. Throughout his career, Judge Lippman has embodied the spirit of the Theodore Roosevelt Leadership Award as he works to ensure access to justice for all. Distinguished Service Award The Distinguished Service Award is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to criminal justice innovation. The 2016 honoree, Edward M. Stroz, Executive Chairman, Stroz Friedberg, and member of the Crime Commission's Board of Directors. He has dedicated his career to improving public safety by combating cybercrime, creating the FBI's Computer Crime Squad in NYC and using behavioral science in investigative methodology to enhance cybersecurity for his clients. The event was held overlooking the city on the 35th floor of the Mutual of America building, where representatives from New York City's law enforcement and business communities joined the Crime Commission in paying tribute to the honorees.
