ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY November 6, 2013 Theodore Roosevelt Leadership Award The Theodore Roosevelt Leadership Award recognizes pioneering leadership in the field of criminal justice. The award honors the history of the Crime Commission as it traces its roots back to the late 1800s, when the New York Society for the Prevention of Crime helped bring down Tammany Hall and install Theodore Roosevelt as president of the New York City Board of Police Commissioners. In 2013, the Crime Commission honored legendary former New York County District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau. In his nine terms in office, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office conducted roughly 3.5 million criminal prosecutions, helping to reduce homicides in New York County by over 90%. The event was held overlooking the city on the 35th floor of the Mutual of America building, where representatives from New York City's law enforcement community, including the NYPD, DEA, ATF, FBI, and the NY State District Attorneys Association, joined the Crime Commission in paying tribute to Mr. Morgenthau.
